Welcome to the a Calorie Counter Blog.

Hey there. As of this week, a Calorie Counter is officially live. So far, people seem to like it… a lot. The site was mentioned on a few big blogs (Lifehacker and Fitsugar, for example) and even spent most of a day on the front page of del.icio.us. Awesome!

I’ve been getting some feedback, and it has all been really positive. I’ve also gotten a few really good suggestions. If you have any feedback/suggestions of your own, leave ’em in the comments.

  1. The numbers seem to be underestimated compared to the Canadian Nutrient Value of Common foods publised by Health Canada. Where are you getting the number from?

Great Site though, will definetly be using it ALOT.

  2. Keith, cool, thanks.

Justin, a Calorie Counter is using the USDA National Nutrient Database, which I guess could somehow differ from the Canadian database. Although, I just compared a few foods from the two databases and they had identical nutrition information.

When you compared the foods, did you enter the same serving size first? I noticed that the Canadian database has different serving size recommendations for many foods than the US one has for those same foods. But, as long as I entered that serving size in to a Calorie Counter, I got the same numbers for the foods I checked.

Oh, and glad you liked the site. =)

  3. Israel, awesome. Thanks.

Sabrina, cool, cool, cool. I know exactly what you mean when you say “fluff.” The goal here was definitely to be fluff-free. Or is it fluff-less? Either way… no fluff. =)

  4. Dude, I’ve been looking for all these nutritional information sites and you’ve come out with the SIMPLEST of them all. That’s just what makes this place so useful. Thank you for putting all the work into your website!

  5. I love Calorie Counter!
    This is easy and fast.
I started using this system yesterday…and loved it. And this morning I did my CC. Although, I had way too many calories…it was a wake up call for me…to slow my roll and be more conscience of what I eating.
My plan is to use cc at the end of the day or first thing in morning..

I wish we could have included in CC… individual daily log food eaten, with graphs, etc…to give more visual perspective of eating habits/patterns and progress…day by day log, week by week, etc…

    Comments?

  6. Chang, thanks man. You’re quite welcome.

Gee2, glad you’re liking it. All of that other stuff you mentioned (logs, graphs, etc.) are sitting on my “to-do in the future list.” Some day, they will be on the “done” list. I promise. =)

  7. Hey there

GREAT SITE!! I don’t know if it’s due to a lack of exercise or i’ve just been eating more… but i have noticed my thighs steadily looking worse in skirts and shorts so i tried looking up websites which would help me thin my thighs down

most of the websites i’ve come across say less calories in than calories out is the way to go and aCalorieCounter.com is by far the best and easy reading site i’ve found so far

thanks you! fabulous site!! and keep up the great work!

  8. Hey, great site. While the data is definitely useful, I’m most impressed with the simple design and interface. Do you mind mentioning what technologies you used to build it? It seems the blog is done in WordPress, but the rest looks hand made. Did you use straight PHP/Javascript, or something fancier like Ruby on Rails? I’m interested because I have a similar type of site (aggdata.com), centered around the collection and display of data. Thanks!

  9. Chris, the blog is indeed WordPress. I did all of the design/interface stuff, but anything that required any actual programming skill was done by a very awesome freelance guy. But as far as I’m aware, it’s all straight php/javascript.

  10. I happened to “Stumble” upon your site. Great job, and really useful information! (I enjoyed reading about the 88 foods that can kill you – yikes!) 🙂

  11. This site really rocks! I am so glad I found it, I started relearning to eat exactly at the same time this site went live, in october! Now Calorie Counter makes my life easier, and yes it’s fluff free, that’s the cool part of it. Thanks sooooo much!

    Cheers from Tunisia
